dan, were you really pissed about something after the brooklyn show or something? me and my friend were standing at the end of the stage at the end of the night and said high to you, but you looked so pissed about something and just sorta stormed off.

however, your set was SICK! man, i did not realize the extent of your mixing skills before, having never actually seen a set of yours before. man, you were mixing two songs almost always at the same time, it was so great! like, when you played some song that i forget into that yelle remix, you were mixing them all the way to the breakdown of the yelle remix, and then as soon as the beat dropped, you were practically doing a mashup of that with the next song! it was so sick!

shit i dont remember much from the end of the night. i was WASTED. i certainly wasnt pissed.. i think moreso along the lines of exhausted. my apologies if i came off as rude.

and thanks for the comments on my DJing. it's tough being on tour with jesse an al because they kill it every single night. and that particular show i was playing after the beetroots and before mstrkrft so i knew i had to come hard. i was all set to start with one track and then laz comes up to me and says "you better kill it" so the second before i started i switched up to an edit of our remix of "the party" that we made specifically for starting our sets (it basically starts straight into the breakdown) and let it rip.

being an old drum & bass DJ and fan of Andy C i tend to 'double drop' my mixes.. trying to mix one song all the way through the second breakdown while mixing in the new songs first breakdown over the second one.. then just having them both drop at the same time.. with the bass cranked up on both tracks it just destroys dancefloors (and sound systems!). i rarely, if ever, EQ out a bassline.. with programs like serato out there you can basically tell where to drop a song without knowing it just by glancing at the screen. and i do mean 'glance'.. i dont even have my decks set up at my apartment so i rely a lot on just figuring stuff out when i'm up on stage.

but seriously, thanks for noticing. i think that sometimes my mixing is so subtle that it goes over a lot of people in the crowds heads. they just hear drops and go nuts.. not realizing that im creating those drops and mixing probably 95% of the time that i'm up there.

being on tour with the Jesse and Al i've learned A LOT more about how to set em up and knock em down. those guys are some of the best DJs i've seen. their sets are pretty fucking lethal and for the first three shows of the tour i just had horrible sets.. i couldnt figure out how to hang with what they were doing.

this tour has been amazing! studio b was probably the best time ive had on it.. seriously good fucking party!

haha, i'm glad you weren't just really pissed about something. and honestly, i'm not really surprised that no one else noticed your sick mixing skills, i think the whole double drop thing is not something that your everyday club-goer would notice all that much. but man, that was so sick!

also, later, i'm pretty sure i bought a t-shirt from the other guy from la riots without realizing it. it's not my fault i've never seen him before! and plus, if he was the other guy, why wasnt he mixing with you? or is he just, like, a production guy or something?

hahah. that's josh our merch guy! my partner john hasnt been going out on the road because at this point in this 'thing' that we have we really cant afford to fly two people around to the gigs.. we both quit our jobs to do this full time so it's smarter if i go out and he stays in hollywood.. we can double our output that way. i think in may we are going to start going out as a duo.

thanks for picking up a shirt!
