i need your opinion on somethin guys...

i have my second gig alongside a friend of mine coming up next month. usually he plays similar music to me, but he's found that more people come to his shows when he plays hip hop. so i guess at his next show with me he's decided to do that. what should i play? i'm not compromising my style, but do i go easy or do i just say fuck it and try and kill it? i know i'm going first, and i was just wondering the pro's take.

haha good advice.
play hip hop/electro crossovers. like bounce, stronger, and electro remixes of hip hop, etc.

sup la riots, I really like your rmx of switchblade - very cool bassline (y).. that chick has a v. cool voice too.. Just out of curiosity - is that bassline from esx24? or what hardware synths did you end up purchasing? cause i'm highly considering getting the nord lead 2 and the juno106 (bounced through logic) (i can see how you only used the esx24 - the rest are pretty shit unless you like wurtlizer piano's or strings aha..

is the gig a party, or like a real club gig. cuz if it's a party, completely play what you want, I mean if your friend is gonna play strictly hip hop, play some bangers, play some hits, play the stuff you love, cuz you don't have to warm the floor up for anybody really, just your buddy, and that way the people who dig the bangers will have a banging night and the people who dig the hip hop will have a hip night, know what I mean, a few weeks ago me and nrvsdecoi played a party full of cholos, and rebels and few kids who really dug our music, and we killed it, some cholo got our number wanting us to play a party for him, just play what feels right

the esx is a sampler, you can't generate synth sounds out of it. the bassline in switchblade came from a few softsynths layered up and distorted, i think mini-monsta was the primary one. i ended up taking it over to a friend's studio and running it through his board to beef it up a bit too. i have a juno 106, its cool in that it has that "classic" sawtooth synth you've heard a lot but really only has a few useful sounds. getting a hardware sampler is a good idea, you can sample any synths you get ahold of and do all kinds of crazy shit to them. i'm using both a v-synth and an emu6400 right now. the next synth i'd buy is a moog voyager.

I'm just gonna stick to what lazaro told some other guy, the more you stick to what you want to play and what you like playing the more that people around will understand what music direction your taking you know, understand YOUR sound
