Yeah I'm migrating from FL 8 to PT now. My main problem now is just the interface issues and processing power. Plus Pro Tools gets my computer high and eats all my RAM after a while.
I'm thinking of getting an MBox maybe when PT 8 drops... As long as it's on the cheap. I'd need an interface that we can DJ with too. I think we're going midi control (we're building one actually) so it's gonna be internal mixer, with everything coming out one channel, plus headphone cue.
We're looking into building a server too for production and DJing (it's gonna be a 1 or 2 unit rack server, so it'll be portable)
Just need to make some cash monay!

Ps what is your perception of the way your music is accepted across the world? Like how receptive is an audience to tech or house in Berlin or Mexico as compared to somewhere like Montreal?

Techno is like soccer right now, big everywhere in the world except the states. The parties are better in my opinion cause they last longer and go well into afterhours. The spot I play at in Monterrey every month, I would start about 3 am and go til about 10 am.

Ofcourse everything has its time and place but over the years I've played several different types of parties and I've came to realize the afterhours thing is my favorite.

So far I'm about more than halfway through it.
This is the first time I'm reading a charles bukowski book and I'm definitely interested in reading more of his literature. I'm not gonna lie I think he's absolutely nuts in the sense that he's not at all modest about his explicit writing.

he's gotten me through some tough times, just cause of how wreckless he is and how little he had but still managed to live so carelessly.

but the guy is a fucked up man and the more you read the more it'll affect you

Hey Laz what's your middle name?
And why don't you have a wikipedia page? You could say you used to be a Cuban tiger fighter at the age of 13 or something...
Plus you can use yourself as a reference, so you could say all sorts of crazy shit

Also is there a trick for getting a nice sub bass??

seriously? i gota double check on that, im deathly afraid of upgrading the OS on my studio computer. i keep that thing off the internet and dont even do any security updates just cause its so easy to break shit.

yeah I read on the site
only compatible with 10.5
I'm afraid of leopard too
I'm currently so frustrated with my 1st generation mac book pro
it maxes out at 2 gigs and when i have like three minimoogs open in instrument tracks it starts freaking out on me

I wish I could finance a PPC power mac
they're SO stable for pro tools
i saw a side by side comparison
my laptop 2.0GHZ 2gigs of ram
versus a 10 inch powerbook with 512mb's of ram and 1.5GHZ processor
and the old powerbook with less ram and processor power beat mine so dirty.

yea man IBM's powerpc structure was pretty solid and it helped debunk the whole "more ghz = faster" myth, cause that shit got pretty ridiculous a few years ago.

i remember apple making the jump for several reasons one being ibm falling behind on supplies since they picked up sony ps3, they kinda made that a big priority.

i believe another reason was that intel at the time was making big advancement in how cool processors were running and power consumption. it was something that made sense for apple to move forward in the laptop/mobility market.

Its funny but i remember reading apple buying a boutique processor company called PA Semi earlier this year. PA semi design low power consumption PowerPC chips. Who knows what apple may have planned but im guessing they want their own proprietary chips on the iphone down the line.

Why not AMD?!
They've been able to beat Intel on clock speed alone because they're cooler and more efficient. Plus their multicore technology is quite a bit better from what I've read. They seem to be on the ball with advancements in virtualisation, hypervisor support, etc.
Think about it. A Quadcore iPhone! you'd be able to run all sorts of crazy shit.

no middle name, i was supposed to have "reynaldo" but a mix up at the hospital happened and it never made it to the birth certificate...thank goodness.

some of the soft synths i use like the predator have a sub bass knob on a filter where you can just turn up to your liking. maxbass plug in from waves works great too and you can even layer it on top of your soft synth. compression helps a lot like the mcdsp analog channel compressor adds a lot of tube warmth. after all said is done i would recommend doing subtractive eq'in on all your channels to give plenty of room for you sub bass.

there was also this one plugin i messed around with a few months ago that i'll have to go back for the name but i've been meaning to mess with again. it was basically just a sub bass signal generator but i think its purpose served more for beefing up kicks but i wanted to experiment with it outside of the kick.

Haha I guess your name's epic enough. I got my name from my grandfather's middle name, which was misspelled on his birth certificate, so I guess fuck ups are popular. You know Jesus' name was originally supposed to be Jack? Jack Christ. But the same thing happened. They fucked up the birth certificate and there was a fee to get another one made so they just kept it.

I was fooling with Predator the other day and it's sub bass control, but for some reason oscs 2 and 3 wouldn't work... I felt like a power n00b, but it might have just been a fail on the software side..

I'll give the maxxbass a try. I think I tried it on a kick once...
When you're Eqing your bass, what's the curve setup like? Are you just slicing the kick and highs? W shaped? Secret?
Come to think of it, a multiband comp might help get some extra low volume out of my bass...

Anyways, thanks for answering all these questions

ps, do you have a secret source for samples or do you make them yourself?

yea definitely has to be a bug in the software. I usually just start with roll off the top and bottom normally with a 2 chan eq but as the sessions goes i'll start adding more channels to that eq and adjust to liking.

the waves paz analyzer is great on the master. you can record the eq curve of your favorite song then adjust your projects eq to it but i've taken myself out of that habit in order to train my ear a little better.

samples i probably have like 40 gigs worth of samples. not all of it is great actually most isnt but the sample packs ive personally like i keep to myself but they arent hard to come across.
