PS I'm getting the Korg Nano series.. probably the one with the transport functions and then maybe a keyboard one to control Serato. Have heard nothing but good things.

how could you control serato with the keyboard?

Assigning each control to a note. You can also use the Modulation wheel as the deck fader. You can control Serato with any MIDI controller. MIDI is your friend.

You can convert the keys to whatever midi message you want so you can use them for cue jumps, loops, etc.

I'm getting the Nanokontrol soon. I'm just hoping the faders have a good enough resolution to be useful. I want to be able to beatmatch with them and control detailed effects, as long as they're not jumpy or low res.

What about OSC? General acquaintance?
I heard Midi2's coming out soon or something... I wonder which one's going to be used the most in the future.

I like the kontrol one cus I can use the transport functions and the handful of buttons on it to keep my hands off the keyboard and mouse while producing. I'm not sure if I'd trust the faders enough to mix with (I like punching in numbers), but I'd probably assign them to some LP filters and reverb sends on my main synths. I'll tell you guys how it goes with 'em.

Oh and the keyboard version has a dedicated button to turn all the keys into CC controls - totally badass.

Oh yeah I forgot, there's a video of Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater going nuts on the NanoKey, so they must be pretty solid.

I wish they would make one that was specifically targeted towards non-Ableton DJs. One with a few faders, pads and knobs laid out in a typical pattern, plus separate transport controls.

That reminds me. Hey Lazaro, do you happen to know what kind of demands Daft Punk has whenever they do tour?

it's Van Halen or something that does that. Or maybe Motley Crue?? i can't remember.

She's not hot yet, but maybe one day her pops will give her that too.
It just seems that it would be hard to be a normal guy and still have to present yourself to people. Jesse does a great job at it but it just seems like it'd be so exhausting. You're lucky you can still be on the sly at home.

I'm trying out traktor pro on the allan & heath xone:1d now. Let me tell you, the build quality on it is GREAT. A bit big and pricy but definitely worth it. Richie Hawtin uses two of them in his set up.

But I believe xone:1d is good for all sorts of apps.

Yeah Man Traktor Pro's nutty. I've been wanting to try it with that setup ever since I saw those Ritchie Hawtin videos. He's got most of what he'd need all programmed onto a relatively small space. I like the stuff he does like setting up macros for micro loops so they sync all tracks when he deactivates the loop.

I'm hoping to setup a cheap solution for now with hotkeys and the NanoKontrol. I'm also working on setting up two hard drive platters for jog wheels, just to be cool.

What if virtual reality was virtually real, allowing you to have a virtual facsimile of a life?

Laz what do you think of the new stuff people are doing with controllerism? I'm surprised you haven't hacked together a wiimote controlled, 3D IR matrix to control Traktor Pro or something
Have you seen the Nintendo DS hacks where you can turn the touch screen into a mini Lemur and send OSC messages via wifi? You could be incorporating multiple types of geek into your sets!
