those are mackie hr824, a bit pricy but well worth the money.

you can learn how to mix on anything pretty much, just a matter of getting used to the speakers dynamics.

you can try studio headphones too but you'll start going to deaf

That's the box still sitting on the floor, no?

Laz you have any tricks for reverb? What do you put on what to give it space, but not wash things out?

those were the first sale i made when i started at guitar center
i remember one of them didnt turn on and you had to come back
before i quit i grabbed myself a pair of the hr 624's for only 350 dollars direct from mackie.

the 8" is nicer i might sell mine on ebay and get NS10's
but they're not bad at all

just automate the wet/dry mix and mess with decay and diffusion to draw out the length of the reverb if you wanted.

some reverb have high pass filter but i would say just roll off (on eq) the the bottom and top whatever you dont need. i find it rolling off a lot from the bottom clears up al ot of space. you can even do some slight sidechaining to keep your kick going .

haha yea i remember. that speaker pissed me off. i later had another issue within a few weeks where one subwoofer was constantly pulsing like a heartbeat even without sound. so i had to do warranty exchange with mackie and they sent me a frickin 624 by mistake so i had to mail back and wait on the 824. i find it odd that the one they sent me was a 2 prong power supply as opposed to 3 prong like the others. theyve been working flawless since then though.

Oh yeah I meant to ask you, Do you sidechain your sub bass? Like if you have a really low kick? Or do you pick one or the other for priority? It seems like if you sidechain and automate everything you'd never have to compromise...

i like to use good kick samples to start with so i don't have much to do to them. depending on how punchy or deep i want the low end frequencies i will eq one way or another. almost all my stuff is sidechained to the kick, cause i dont want my kick drowned out ever. the thing is i'm very careful not to overdo my sidechaining so i'll tweak the threshold, attack and release to taste without overdoing it.

but yea, if you sidechain + eq you will notice everything fit very nicely.
