Hey Laz,
I was at Ernest Hemigway's favourite cuban reasturant today drinking a mojito listening to Klover when I remembered you're of Cuban descent. Did you ever live there or have you gone back to visit? My mom lived there during Castro's take over but her memories of it sound absolutely amazing. Is your heritage a big part of your personality or life? Do you have any strong feelings about the situation there? Hopefully with Obama things can improve for families visiting etc.

Anyway, I think I'm going to plan a trip to the island next spring. After what the cubans I met today were telling me I don't think I could avoid it.

you mean la bodegita del medio?

i had my first mojito there when i was 11 i think lol.

i havent been back in years but when i was under 18 i was able to go a lot, i think if youre a minor and have family there you can go back all you want directly.

but yea some of the most beautiful beaches i've seen are in cuba

Yep yep.

Most mojitos I've had weren't so hot but those were amazing. Almost made me give up my dedication to mint juleps.
So do you wear guayaberas yet? Did you ever fall in love with any guajiras? How old were you when you left?

I saw a pretty cool DJ routine on one once. It was basically the step sequencer LED crawler thing, but you could do a bunch of stuff with it.
Too bad they're still fairly expensive and not even available for a while.
A good alternative is the Arduinome, an Arduino based Monome clone. Exact same thing basically, except they're actually taking orders for them right now.

Laz what do you think of the upcoming Midi2 compared to OSC? Which do you think will become standard? OSC's a lot higher resolution and it can be transmitted over ethernet really easily which is trumping midi right now. The only issue is compatibility, as midi is a lot more popular in controllers and software.

hahaha stoner jam......this happens so often to me. ill smoke a bowl with full intentions of working on a track. It ends up with me playing synthlines to a kick drum at 130 for an hour.

how much do you spend on music (i.e. beatport) in a week?

and
panties: good thing or bad thing?

You can go back every three years if you have family there. And otherwise you just go through Mexico or any other forgein country. The cubans won't stamp your passport and as long as the US doesn't find out somehow all is well.

I still don't understand that whole thing. Why is Cuba so evil in the eyes of the US gov.?
