I saw a pretty cool DJ routine on one once. It was basically the step sequencer LED crawler thing, but you could do a bunch of stuff with it.
Too bad they're still fairly expensive and not even available for a while.
A good alternative is the Arduinome, an Arduino based Monome clone. Exact same thing basically, except they're actually taking orders for them right now.

Laz what do you think of the upcoming Midi2 compared to OSC? Which do you think will become standard? OSC's a lot higher resolution and it can be transmitted over ethernet really easily which is trumping midi right now. The only issue is compatibility, as midi is a lot more popular in controllers and software.

i think midi and osc both transfer at same speed over ethernet. midi sends

Quote:
When carried on Ethernet, MIDI bits move at the same data rate as OSC bits carried on Ethernet, because the data rate is a factor of the transport, not the protocol. In terms of throughput, MIDI can actually have better throughput than OSC because it takes fewer bytes to make common MIDI messages than it does to make comparable OSC message

hey laz, i got a double question.

how much do you spend on music (i.e. beatport) in a week?

and
panties: good thing or bad thing?

depends how much good music there is that week. i do it on my company card so it works as a tax write off. i probably spend about 60 a month.

oh yea and panties, im all for them. i think it looks classy on a broad, it's like unwrapping a christmas present

laz, are you getting a lot of use out of your trigger finger? i noticed in the pic of your setup you have one, is it essentially for drumming or are you triggering other things? i like the idea of using one for drums but wonder if it is worth getting for just drums. what other uses you getting out of it?

So Laz, what inspires you? Has it changed a lot throughout your producing career?

Are you into any minimalist composers?

Steve Reich is SO amazing to me.
