^ those are just midi controllers tho. if your qualms are about the soundcard then just get a different soundcard and use the bcd as a midi controller.

this thread covers alot of that stuff.

No questions (yet), but I've read up to page 24 and have registered here just to be able to express gratitude.

Thanks all, this thread is fkn awesome! An absolute goldmine for someone who has only ever played around with FL in a half-assed way, but who is getting slightly more ambitious.

Yeah I see a bit of derision aimed at Fruity, but it seems easy enough to play around with. I didn't get a fountain pen when I learnt to write, I got a crayon.

It will do until I find out for myself what it's limits are. If the end product is okay (awesome!), then it will do. If not, I'll come back to this thread and ask Taylor if I should buy MBP/Logic/Ableton to enhance my (lack of) compositional skills.

I've played guitar for ages. I'm not great at it, but I can figure stuff out. I understand how the noise is generated. I suppose that's my curiosity with synths/electronics - I don't know how the sounds are made. I don't know how much of (latest example) Neon nights/Bounce clip on youtube is MSTRKRFT just standing around looking cool, mixing two of their own tracks together whilst scoping pussy, and how much of the sound I'm hearing is being 'created' live (synths, samples, effects, whatever). Shit, that's almost a question....

are akg k240's good headphones for studio work?? im sick of using dj headphones as they pump up the bass and i cant well use speakers because im going to be in a dorm with someone else when i make music most of the time so the idea is to not bother my roommate. any thoughts?

edit: i noticed a lot of reviews recommended the beyerdynamic DT 770 Stereo Headphones i favor of the akg's, but theyre about a hundred dollars more even if i get them slightly used, is it worth the difference?

i knock FL every once in a while but that piano roll is great.

ive got two friends that i sorta graduated to ableton since theyre both on windows. the one that was more experience with audio had his mind blown by all the possibilities.

its really all about which setup you work the best with. like i arrange in ableton, the rerecord and mix in logic once ive got a good idea of what i want it to sound like.
