you're absolutely right about a lot of that homeboy. this thread is a load of shit for the most part, but there's no reason to be so aggressive about it. music production is hard to get into when you first start. sure they're doing it all wrong, but perhaps if you're gonna say anything at all you could steer them in the right direction instead of starting a bunch of shit.

A majority of people who post in this thread are still figuring stuff out for themselves. Of course there's going to be arguments about stupid stuff. No one is amazing at producing who posts in this thread.

I do like how people share things and their own techniques about music production. Most of the time it's refreshing to check this thread every other day, yet sometimes it can seem annoying at times.

trax is a throw back to house music history. i do it to remember why i make and love house. (ie acid trax by phuture/trax on da rocks by thomas bangalter etc)

also, you took it as insult when really it was constructive criticism on the philosophical art aspect of production, not on the technical aspect. my philosophy is to rough it out and learn the hard way.

but yeah you guys can have this thread. i was just throwing in my 2cents, but i guess any one whos a black sheep and doesnt agree with you people doesnt deserve the right to post an opinion.

Have fun and fuck you.

protip: when you find yourself writing an aggressive, unnecessary post save it for a day and see if you still feel the same way. chances are you won't, +everyone will have moved on and you don't look as bad.

more than just the people that write on here look at this so lets try our best not to look like idiots and maintain a certain level of respect for one another.

TYLER,
The remix you made of Peanut Club is pretty sick. I love the dark aspect you gave it and i dont mind the back noises at all honestly..they add to the overall feel of the song. Like someone said earlier....the buildup is sick as fuckkk, but after that is dulls out. You can or don't have to take this into consideration, but i think you should add a few more short buildups at the end, it would really make the energy on it crazy...much respect man.

you can do make that by messing with the LFO settings and the pitch bend range.

If you don't mind I'll take a stab at this question, although im no expert. Try putting a stereo widener like the Waves S1 or the PSP Stereo Widener on you master or on a bus with anything you want wider. It kind of subtracts the sounds on the right from the left from the right and vice a versa to make it seem wider - which means you cant get as wide with normal panning. For that inside people's head shit - and this is just a guess - maybe use a pseudo stereo plugin like PSP Pseudo Stereo. It uses algorithms to make mono sounds into stereo, but something about the process makes it sound 3D or inside your head. I think this is used in some Phonat tracks and Beetroots Warp. Once again, Im not sure on this but give it a shot.

You gotta be careful when adding a stereo widener to your master. If you add it then it should be a multiband one where you can choose the level of widening, the type of widening used and on what frequencies.

Like he said the processing is what gives it that extra wide effect inside your head. It relies on the way we hear things, but this means that if you widen something a lot you're subtracting the center frequencies and if it's on your master and you do it to your bass then it'll kill it.

I've been studying stereo imaging a lot lately, looking at really good tracks and reading up on it because I was having problems with phasing. In general... the lows are always kept in mono or should be kept in mono. And widening can be used with increasingly as the frequencies get higher.

I can't figure out how to automate pitch bends...

Not the technical side of it but how to make it sound good. I can't stand how ableton doensn't sync up to whatever automation & gives me that damn 0 to 1 option that then represents some fraction of whatever value you put it blah blah .... I'm about to throw my laptop out the window.

is there some trick to it? like the polyphony or something I'm missing? or the shape of the envelope?

With whatever synth you are using cant you just go into the synth, then click (maybe move a little) on the pitch knob, then go back into arrangement view and the automation should be for the pitch now right?

I just tried it and it allowed me to move freely from 0.00 to 1.00 and anywhere in between. Some setting thing or something you got going on?

No I mean I can do it but I can't get it to sound good. Like I'm just not getting the sequencing/automation right.

EDIT: I'm near a breakthrough but not quite there yet. If you guys got awesome dutch/latin house to listen to let me know.

I've designed some really neat synths in the last couple days but I can't quite get the sequencing properly... I think I'm sticking to the grid too much and need to bust out the padkontrol and tap these babies out.
