because the sequencer in reason is essentially doing the same thing as the midi edit window when you double click a sequence in ableton

Hey guys, what do you think is the cheapest and best way to start making electronic music?

I would like to start, but im running low on dough.

I would like for it to stay PC based, thanks.

How much would beginner , but still quality cost? For everything i need.(audio interface, controller,ie)

THanks.

to start just get FL studio. if you need an interface, get a cheap m-audio usb one. a midi controller isn't necessary, but if you want one get a 25 key. i have a 49 and unless you're recording actual piano playing its pretty unnecessary. later on maybe get into ableton etc.

it depends on how good your built in sound card is...if its stock, chances are its not strong enough for production. here's what i suggest:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MAudio-Fast-Track-USB-Computer-Recording-Interface?sku=703606

thats obv the cheapest interface.

and yeah, any midi keyboard should work with FL.

don't worry about monitors until you decide how serious you are about this. thats a big expense for just starting out. but do get some high quality headphones for mixing purposes.

yes, thats true, reason is just one big VST, youll have to route it via ReWire into a sequencer, and depending on what youre trying to produce, drum pads seriously arent that important, when i do a lot of improv drumming on my keyboard instead of the pads, so why not save up and buy something with nicer key action instead

and akai will have nicer pads, they pretty much invented drum pads

Hey, I'm completely new to this, after seeing MSTRKRFT at Bonnaroo, and I have Ableton, and Reason 4. I'm saving up money for a decent midi controller, so right now I'm limited to using the little draw mode Ableton. How would I go about using Reason as a VST in Ableton?
