At the level he's at, promoters approach HIM, not the other way around.

Starting out though, you want to be whoring yourself out to every promoter in your city, and with some luck you'll get picked up.

a lot of people/other dj's send tracks to me, i still cruise beatport a lot actually, following certain labels on there is a good starting point. also listening to mixes from DJ's you respect is a good way to find tracks that often slip under the radar.
hope this helps

i was making music waaay before I was a DJ, and kind of fell into DJ'ing because of the tunes I was making. so a lot of clubs approached me online because the residents at their clubs were playing my tunes.

i've never dropped off a mix before, i think that's useless. Nobody has the time to listen to 30mins of music from someone they don't know. that to me is the ancient band theory of 'hey i hope one of the 300 labels i mailed my album to signs me!' million to one shot by going that route i think.

just befriend people that are doing parties in your town i'd say, and work that route. people always need DJ's to play early in the night!

That's cool. Thanks dude. I'm not really looking to be a dj but that seems like sound advice. The club world is like a foreign country to me.

Being from Vancouver, are you a Canucks fan?

Sure, Canucks are great. Don't follow them as closely as I used to, but I try and catch 1 or 2 games a year.

Felix,

What would your advice be to someone who wants to start spinning records at parties and mixing records?

What would be the best starter dj kit?

Also, Have you considered touring in the Southeastern part of the U.S? Being from Memphis we don't get to hear much electro. Whenever I put something from Dim Mak on the ipod at a party people love it. I believe people around here are waiting for electro to make its way down here.

Ive been doing this exact thing, but in the late night sets it never gets as hard as some of the portions in my set, so I think a lot of people want me to go first but then I wear the crowd out or wrile them up and the energy never stays that high, or they just dont want me to play so I dont get the job. Its lame, man.

Did you start off at small local venues?
Or did you catch a bigger break through connections?

So I recently moved off to college, from El Paso, Texas to New York. D:

I already miss not being in a place where you tend to come to! Especially with that new Drone song out, I'm certain I would go absolutely nuts hearing you drop that in a live mix. I would definitely enjoy that very much.

So my question to ya, Felix: Are you going to make any stops in the New York area, that you know of?
