Is anyone on this going Egg tonight? My crappy friend crapped out on me.

Don't think I'll be going, it's depressing.

So a question. Will you be touring for your album release? If so, please do London again!

Went last night, I thought you'd be the last DJ on, but you were on hella early! I got there like half an hour late for your set. Sucks.

whenever you're relaxing or traveling etc but dont feel like producing or something do you ever listen to chillout/downtempo/idm music? and if so, what are your favorite artists in those genres?

Ahh I hate the term IDM so much. When I'm relaxing I listen to things other than electronic music. Really into Spoon, Radiohead, Zero 7, and The Zombies currently. On the electronic spectrum though, I'm a big fan of anything Border Community, the Nathan Fake albums are brilliant, as well as the Holden ones. Lump and Idiot are amazing tunes.

seems like everyone makes a point to say that name is stupid, and i agree to a certain extent. but why can't we move on and just accept it? at least its an acronym... it might as well be xyz music. Do people hate it because of what it stands for or because, as a genre it could be viewed as redundant and not very specific? i'm kinda confused about this.

hahaha yeah i think that term is kind of stupid too, but i end up using it because there are some artists i dont know what else to label as haha..

you should def check out some ninja tune artists if you like zero 7, of course some are pretty electronic, but there are some like bonobo that use a lot of organic elements and have vocals on some tracks.

edit: on the flipside, i do kind of agree with tyler, as long as people understand what its actually trying to say theres not really anything wrong with it, i guess the real ppl to hate are those that made up the term originally

anyway, so i know this is kind of a big question seeing as youre (fairly) new to the electro/house scene, and youre still a young buck, but would you ever want to run your own record label or do you think it would be too much work? and if you didnt want to run your own label, would you ever change the way you live your musical career? later on in life i mean? (ie only produce instead of djing (like producing for bands maybe), or running a club or something like that)

No i agree with the terminology thing, when it comes down to it, all genres are a bit silly because it ends up unnecessarily pigeonholing thing, but it's necessary in the long run for classifying things in a specific manner.

As for later in my life, I always think about the future of course, and producing is definitely what I want to keep doing. I've already started producing some music for pop artists with a friend of mine- we are working as developing ourselves as a production team (think Neptunes or The Matrix).
Running a club seems overly hectic for me, and I don't think I could handle the stress of that side of the promotion game. Working closely with promoters has given me a lot of respect for the amount of work it requires to run a successful club/night, and although it is something I respect, it's something I don't want to be involved in.
As for a label, that is something that I am not sure about, there are no plans of it in my mind right now, but never say never. I love discovering new music and sharing it with people, so if a label ever did happen it would be based on that simple idea.

Phewww, good questions.

Dear Felix,

I know you are a big proponent of using Reason so I couldn't think of anyone better to ask.

I'm having some really intense latency when I rewire reason into Ableton.

My setup out is as follows:

Macbook Pro Late 2009
Firestudio Mobile
Rokit 6(s)
Ableton 8.09
Reason 4

I've been looking all over the place and I can't find the answer. I tried the latency compensation in Ableton and that helped a bit but it's still off. I'm wondering if you Rewire? if you have the same problem?

Thanks dude...

I do rewire, but into Protools, not Ableton. At one point I did have a major latency problem with Reason before I upgraded to OS X (way back in the day). So my only suggestion would be to cruise the Propellerhead site and see if there are any upgrade patches for the Reason program you're running. (although if it's 4 i don't see it being the problem, but this is the only thing I can think of right now!). Other than that, you could try the same thing for ableton off of their site... That's my best advice for now.
hope this helps a bit,
