Oh shit... So many questions. You are seriously a motivating force to me right now.

Anyways... For Skeleton, what software did you use to get 'skeleton' vocal clip? Or is it a sample? I actually find myself thinking about this alot. Haha.

Also, for drum kits, what do you reccomend? I'm at a stand still right now, haven't really found anything I like too much.

Thanks!

It's just a text-to-speech editor. There's lots of different options for them!

Drum kits, I've sort of collected samples over time from friends and songs I like. But it's also pretty necessary to have the 808 and 909 for classic tones.

Hey Felix, I realize you play all over the world, but as a Producer/DJ myself I was wondering what you thought of the dance/electro/club scenes in Vancouver? Or even somewhere like Montreal? I live in a small mountain town and want to jump into a bigger pond if you know what I mean. Just wanted to get your opinion on the nightlife in these two cities

Hey Felix,
So i was wondering if you could lend me some advice. I am mixing down all of my tracks and they sound great on stereo, home computer, ipod, etc. but when we take them to large club systems to play they sound blown out and the low end is highly overpowering. Do you have any suggestions for finding a balance, or better way to mix down, so that it sounds good on both the smaller and bigger systems?
thanks man

First thing you should do is go through and "clean" up your track of low end... so go to anything that isn't your bass and kick drum and put a high pass filter somewhere above 100hz... maybe 150...
depends on the sound. but make sure nothing gets through to your low end. All that sound is gonna make your low end sound muddy. It may sound weird when you solo it but it'll sit better in the mix if you take off all the low end. I mean do everything... even sends etc...

Then go through and high pass your kick and bass at 20hz... that's also "too low" and you can clean that up and it'll make your kick and bass sound better. Sweep up until you find the sweet spot. It will clear up a lot of rumble in your low end.

Now you have to make sure your bass and your kick aren't peaking in the exact same range at the exact same time. so if your kick peaks at 60hz your bass should peak above it a little bit. And hopefully not at the exact same time... so if your kick hits at exactly at 4/4 then make sure your bass notes are slightly off when the kick hits... maybe a little before or after...

Also of course there's side chaining your bass from your kick. I'm sure you know about that.

Instead of boosting your bass with EQ... which should be subtle... try to also use a low end processor like the R.Bass by Waves or the MixBass by PSP.

Turn things down... you might be distorting by mixing at too high volume... If you're using Ableton notice the outout volume in your fxs... is it in the red?

If I think of anything else i'll write some edits.

You posted chart in the making electronic music section a while ago. I'm gonna go reference that as well and see what turns out.

If you want quick references I suggest going to this thread: http://mstrkrft.suddenlaunch3.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&num=1259822963

Its basically all the links found in making electro music thread that are useful, but if you want more specific topics search or read through that thread (more time consuming)

Hi Felix!
First of all, happy new year!
I, and I think I'm not the only one, am very curious how your studio looks like at the moment. Is it totaly done already? Could you post some pics of it in the (near) future maybe?

Around when will the be the outcome of the Skeleton Remix competition?

And last, on the MSTRKRFT part of the forum JFK gave the opportunity for people to opt-in for the guestlist on shows. Any chance you can do the same (in particular for your Europe / Holland show @ Patronaat ....)?

Oh no, this is last: any update on the album?

Felix, I'm not sure if you've answered this already, but how does it make you feel when promoters spell your name wrong?
