hi
« Thread started on: Mar 9th, 2010, 10:49am »

this all needed its own thread.

anyway, it has begun. just making music i liked and putting it out isnt enough for me anymore. since i first started playing in bands (somewhere around 1992), ive come across so many artists that were talented as hell, made amazing songs but had no luck with the music industry. thats all it is at first i think, just luck and timing. of course theres things you can do to increase your odds, but in the end i think its pretty intangible what separates those who "make it" and those who end up disgruntled and giving up. this is hopefully my chance to save those people before its too late.

beyond that, its my chance to try to fix some of the bullshit i keep seeing around me.... seeing super talented kids get signed to some label but getting fucked over and forgotten... labels taking super unfair percentages from them and trying to take their publishing as well... people charging insane amounts of money for things like tshirts... territory restrictions on digital distribution that make stuff annoying to get in different regions... etc etc etc. i remember the first time i bought a dischord 7" where it had the "pay no more than..." info printed right on the back. that honesty and the desire to protect the kids who are fans of your music really affected me. its not enough to just make a great place for the artists, i want it to be just as easy and as fair for the people who buy and support our stuff. simple, right? hey, instead of complaining, why not just start a record label and run it how you think it should be done?

ok

Atta boy Jesse. When the system fails, create a new system. In there for the little guy; I wish you great success!

Oh yeah, the shirts are sick too.

for sure man, there's so much politics to it, many just get into it for the money. it should be about the love for the music. as a promoter we look for major labels as well as upcoming artists. us in smg events learned to keep it young and fresh but with some sick talent. you got a good thing going here man, dope as fuck.

I love the DIY and punk-influenced approach to the label. That was the immediate draw for me, not to mention the amount of amazing music to come. This is the epitome of the DIY digital age, completely the way I've always imagined it being implemented.

This is something really special, I can't begin to describe how happy I am that it's here, with the people who get it running it. What's not to love?

i know you will get flooded with track submissions...
what about making a thread just for label members in this section for submissions.. (just an idea)
format would be simple
name
song
contact info

and your inbox wont get raped
